Backup Exec 12.5 Exchange backup failing

Hi All,

for some time our backups have been failing to back up the exchange database, we believe that an improper shutdown of the server due to power outage is what caused it (yes there is a UPS!)

Attached is the job log.

we have worked through all of the suggested workarounds and have checked the integrity of the Exchange database using eseutil and all is fine there

have run through all of the suggestions here http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=answers&startover=y&question_box=V-79-57344-65146

but backup exec is still insisting that the database is corrupt

Can anyone offer any suggestion

TIA

Mark

Seems the exchange is local on the media server:

Any event ID errors, warning , Information during the backup From ESE, exchange IS.

Also can You post the result of the Integrity check ran with eseutil.

Try this:

perform NT backup to verify if backup is succesfull.

Create a new backup job with exchange mailbox store alone with GRT unchecked for exchange.

Hi looks like the exchange is corrupted, see attachment. We've previously ran the eseutil repair on it and it still appears to be a problem. is there anything else that can be ran to combat this error?

Hi

In this case if you have good full backup of exchange you can do restore of the database or you can call Microsoft to take care of this damaged database issue

You can also think of peforming some task from this link below like offline defrag & etc to give a try ,if you are not sure best thing would be to contact Microsoft in this case

Best is to run a repair on the Exchange database with ESEUTIL /P.

But first make sure to make a copy of the EDB and STM file, just in case.....

Ah that Answers the error message You see in the backups

Best To open up a Support case With Microsoft To fix the error would be advisable.

PS: You can Also recover the Database From the last successfull backup:

The artic le below will guide you with the restore options in backup exec.
