Backup Exec 12.5 - Jobs Failing - Final Error: 0xe00084af

Matt34
Level 4
Final error: 0xe00084af - The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed.
Final error category: Job Errors

Backup- \\XXXXX\G: Directory \ was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or sub-directories contained within will be backed up.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just recently started getting this error.  This job has been running correctly for months and now I am getting this error.
This started happening when I got this error message:
Final error: 0xe000fe3c - Before you can back up this resource, you must purchase and install a license key for the appropriate Backup Exec agent. See the job log for details.
Final error category: Security Errors

All of our licenses are legal and up to date.  Again, nothing changed from the week before.  I had to go onto the Managed Media Server and install the license key for a Remote Agent on it to start backing up other jobs.  After this, jobs started working again, except for this job.

I saw the credentials on the Remote Agent were changed on that server and have changed them to Local Account or Changed it to the Admin account.

When I create a brand new job with the same selection, I test the credentials and it says it is ok...but errors out.

Any help is appreciated.

The remote agent on the server should be running on Local system account . What data do you have on the G: drive on which the backup is erroring out ????Also let me know hwat Operating system you have on that server ..?

Matt34
Level 4
It is running as the local system account and is running on Windows Server 2003 SE SP2.

The Data on the G drive are mainly .TIF and .DOC files.  There are a lot of files about 1 TB worth, but broken up into folders.  I have tried selecting the G drive as a whole, or just selecting a couple of folders.

Do yu have the AOFO option selected int he backup job properties ?
Also make sure process logical volume one at a time is selected under advance open file ...
IS there any other error which is reported int eh job log ....

Matt34

AOFO is selected and so is the Process Logical volumes one at a time.  No other items are showing up in the job log.

Could you try selecting Microsoft Vss Under AOFO ... Instead of Automatically delect the open file technology

Dev_T

Hello,

Please uncheck the G-Drive from the Selection list and re-check it again.

Open the job properties and go to Resource Credentials and test all the credentials.

The backups are already using VSS...Please check the logs

This is one of the first things I have tested.  This job log is coming from a job I just created this morning.  I am getting the same issue as the one that was created months ago.  When creating the job, I selected the G drive instead of using a selection list.

Matt34

Same issue when I tried using Microsoft VSS as the Automatically...

If yu try to select some of the files from the G drive and try to run the backup does it gives you the same error ....

Matt34
Level 4
This is sort of odd...

This is a daily job that has 3 drives selected.  Two of the drives are what I have been getting errors with (E & G) but it worked on the F drive.  That is odd since all of them are on the SAN...

I guess it might be some issue with rights on the San attached drives make sure the backup exec account have full control  ,  is there any other issue yoou are facing with the drive ?
Check if u able to backup using NTbackup ?
Try running defragmentation on those drives

Matt34
Level 4
Good call on trying to run NTbackup.  Running into an issue (well it thinks it completes) but it is only backing up 10kb worth of data.  So I am trying the good old, shut down and restart tonight.  If that does not work I will start looking at those drives further.

Shows up on a W2003 R2 server for several days and goes away.  Comes up again later.  Something has to be done here Symantec!
