Problem

How to migrate Backup Exec to another server with a different Windows OS version.

Solution

NOTE: Backup Exec (BE) is only supported to migrate or move BE to and from the same Windows OS version.
The following steps are successful in most cases. However this is a best effort method as the Windows OS change is not supported.

1. Install BE as a clean install on your New server.
2. Make sure BE is working normal as a clean install on the New server.
3. On the Old server, stop the BE services and the SQL BKUPEXEC service.
4. Copy the Catalogs and Data folder from the Old server to the desktop of the New server.

Path \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\

5. On the New server, stop the BE services.
6. Rename the Catalogs folder to Catalogs.old.
7. Copy the desktop catalogs to the Backup Exec folder.
8. In the Desktop data folder, copy all BEX files to the Backup Exec\data folder (only BEX files)
9. In the Backup Exec folder, run BEUtility.exe.
10 Click yes to open the utility.
11. In the middle column, select All Media servers.
12, In the right column, right click the New server and select Copy Database.
13, In both prompts, browse to the Desktop\data folder and select the BEDB data base files.
14. Click ok to import and restart the BE services.

Hi

Document on the above link ,means are you not able to open the link , or you think that link is opening but you think it is not helpful.

To perform the migration from one server to other you have to perform same things mention in document

1 Take copy of data and catalogs & save it on desktop or some other place on new server

2 Also copy the besernum.xml file from old server to new server , besernum.xml file be located on C-document setting-application data -symantec

3 Once done on new serrver by stopping sql service take backup of data and catalog and place it somewere,so that in case of migration if something is wrong you dont have to uninstall.

4 Ensure while installing same version of BE on new server you can only make on besernum.xml if licenses from old server are removed as same licenses cannot be used on both the Media server

5 Finally once taken the backup properly and ensure Backup exec on new server is on same version with same updates

6 You just have to copy catalogs from old server & to backup exec directory were it is install & click on yes to ovewrite all

7 And using beutility you have to do Copy database by poiting to databases file saved by you from old server (To see how beutilty is use ,you can refer to above link which describes the process)

Hope this helps

Thanks
