Backup Exec 12.5 - Sharepoint Trial/Evaluation License

Afternoon.

Quick Question.

We are currently looking at shifting our SharePoint backups over to BE as it would make sense given all our other backups are done through this application however prior to commiting to purchasing the necessary license we were hoping to trial the feature for a few weeks to make sure it ticks all the relevant boxes and shall do the same as our current backup solution.

I was wondering if anybody knew how to go about getting an evaluation license for a particular feature?

At present I am being prompted by BE12.5 that I need to purchase a license which is what I would expect given that no license is present.  We are also going to be upgrading to either BE2010 or BE2012 (we have both flavours installed on other Domain BE enviroments and I may stick with BE2010 for a while if I possibly can) but I pressume the SharePoint feature(s) shall be very similiar/identical on both BE12.5 and BE2010.

Thanks in advance,

Hi

Have you ensured you have installed remote agent on sharepoint server & if sql database for sharepoint is on different server please install remote agent on sql server too

Also ensure you have configured the permission in correct way this is for MOSS 2007/2010

 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH75907

If you are using sharepoint 2010 then BE 12.5 doesn't support it please upgrade to BE 2010 r3

Hi

In BE 12.5 gives you feature of selecting particular option to test in trialware if BE 12,5 you can go to tool-install option and license key & then check the sharepoint agent which will allow you to use it for next 60days . If you have already tested it that way then contact licensing department on 18003272232 & they  can help you with this to use sharepoint license key in trialware

Thanks

A:
If you never have installed the Sharepoint agent in the past as evalution you can just install the agent, if it asks for a key skip this part and the agent will run in trial mode for 60 days.
If you already installed this agent in the past, but never used it, you won't be able to install it again for testing again.

Thanks for the response Guys.

I had installed the Sharepoint feature on Friday however it immediately asked for a valid license to be installed when I attempted to do a backup of our Sharepoint S.Farm.

As far as I am aware we have never used this feature of BE - it has always been done through another 3rd party software in the past and we are now just looking at BE as a better alternative.  I shall attempt to find email contact details for the UK Licensing support team and see if they can assist.

Hi There so if you have installed share point license last Friday then have you checked in help -about -license information in backupexec if share point license is showing as installed and 10 of 60 days for example if you don't see that then some how it might not be installed properly. And that reason it is giving you license error. Also if you contact licensing for symantec they will best to help you on this for using it in trialware Thanks

Thanks for the reply guys.

I have contacted support to see if they can assist - it has been a week since I inititally installed the Sharepoint feature and upon checking within Help > About (thanks backup-exec) I can see that it is showing as day 1 of 60 for the sharepoint agent.  Strange when I installed 7 days ago :-S

Error I am receiving is below.

You will need to install the remote agent, either by the control panel of BE or manually by going through to

\\backupserver\c$\program files\backupexec\agents\ then either choose 32 bit or 64 bit pending on your version of windows/linux

After this reboot then add the machine again in the console and make sure all updates are applied. Once these are applied restart the server (sharepoint) and then try backing up again, if you got the sharepoint license.

We had trouble where it was not picking up the license once we had to put backup exec agent in to debug mode and then restart services and then take it out of debug mode.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help and reccomendations people.

Finally had 15 minutes to take a look at this and it would appear I was making some silly assumptions and overlooked the agent installed on my SQL Server.  Installed the correct agent now (Doh!) and it appears to be working. Scheduled a full backup for this evening so we shall see how that goes.

Cheers,
