Backup Exec 12.5 configuration Q

zalewskim
Level 2

I need to rebuild our backup exec 12.5 server on a Windows Server 2003 SP2 32bit platform as it currently keeps crashing. I have a couple questions.

1. We are using Backup Exec 12.5 with CPS and DLO what is the best practise with the hard drive partitions? Is it best to have a seperate partition for OS, Backup exec, logs catalogues, bedb, CPS data and journals?

2. Also what is the process for exporting the BEDB and the Backup Exec catalogues?

Thanks for any help you can give me

matt.

Hi there,

I don't think there is any best practice.
On our head office's BEWS server, I was able to create separate partitions for the logs, database, OS (always a standard with us), and installation paths.
On my other sites, I just point them to the installation partition we create, and we don't have any issues with either way. If you want to keep things separate, and have the space, go for it.

For exporting the catalogs to a text file, check this link out:

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/316288.htm

You can also look at moving your DB/catalogs, which you can read up on here:

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/264680.htm <-- Catalogs

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/275658.htm <-- DB (you use the exact same method in other versions of BEWS, not just BEWS 10d).
