Backup Exec 12.5 reboots server

Shaun

We are currently using Backup Exec 12.5 to back up an number of servers but one is causing a few issues. Occasionally (but more frequent) the job failed reporting that it had lost connectivity with the server. I did further testing during the day and found that very shortly after starting the backup job the server just reboots (the server is stable normally with no other issues). Nothing showing in the event logs regarding this it just stops and reboots.Has anybody come across this before?

Thanks

You mean it reboots the remote server that it is trying to backup. I have seen this issue with AOFO, because it tries to do the snapshot and reboots it while doing it if something wrong on vsp.sys.
Please try the below steps:
1> Try to do a backup without aofo option selected in the advanced open file option in the job.
2> What OS you have on this server. Check if you have the vsp.sys installed on that server.
To check vsp.sys -> click on run and type msinfo32 -> expand software environment and then system drivers. Go to the end and check if you see any vsp.sys
3> If you have vsp.sys then the best option is to uninstall the remote agent and install the remote agent again without having the aofo option selected. We can just remove the aofo but that sometimes gives issue.

Mmm...besides that, any errors appearing in the Event viewer of that server that indicate a possible error? You would look at errors around the backup starts on that server.

Hi

yes it just reboots the server. We are not using AOFO on this job so not that. Running Windows 2003 r2 SP1 and vsp.sys is not installed. No errors in the event logs I can just see the server restarting events after it has rebooted. It also doesn't happen everytime, so in the last week 3 jobs from 7 have failed and caused the reboot. The some weeks it will fail only once then others fail the whole week.

Are you sure it is because of the backup if you thing so then uninstall the remote agent from the server and then monitor it for couple of days withoug any backups running. Also please check the windows schedule if it shows anything. Please also select the option not to reboot automatically if it happens because of some BSOD and enable the dump file and check if it get created

...and it only does that when BE runs a job? What OS are you running on that remote server, and have you looked at removing the RAWS agent, before doing a push-install again?
