Backup Exec 15 - Agent for VMWare no longer supports 5.0 and below

So I found this bad little nugget in the BE 15 readme:

Features or requirements no longer supported by Backup Exec 15

The Agent for VMware no longer supports ESX/ESXi 3.x, 4.x, and 5.0.

So it looks like I am stuck on BE2014 as I am still running ESXi 5.0... argh!

Upgrading VMWare is not a luxury I have at the moment. Oh well BE 2014 at least is going OK.

BE 15 uses VDDK 6.0 which actually isn't backwards compatible with ESX 5.0 and earlier and hence the reason for dropping the support.

Currently, none of the free version of ESX is supported with Backup exec.In order to support esx 5.0 you have to continue with BE 2014

...ESXi 5.0 does not necessarily mean the free version of VMware. The name was changed with ESXi 4.1...in all likelihood the OP is running the full version of ESXi 5.0.
