The maximum is really governed by your available storage (for both backup sets and catalogs) and the time it takes to run your planned backups (performance of BE server, remote servers and the networks between them) . So you are asking for information that is really down to your environment and planned backup strategy more than Backup Exec itself and can only really be answered by running some trials. Bear in mind that lots of lots of small files will slow the file by file backup process down so if your ask is not just about size of data but quantity of individual data objects (files etc) then the "in practice" answer may be different.

Backup Exec Deduplication Storage folders are limited to 64TB and you can only have one on a server, there are no hard limits other than this (so B2D and Tape could be more than this). Note you would of course be maintaining more than one backup of each resource for any recommended retention period so this has to be taken into account when you look at the 64TB figure (or your use of tapes and disk storage)

There are recommended limits for numbers of Managed Backup Exec Servers in a CASO setup (IIRC about 80) and that in such a setup the CASO server needs a full SQL instance.

How long's a piece of string? It can handle whatever you throw at it.

Just make sure the media server has enough CPU/memory to handle the OS, backups and any other roles.

Thanks!

Note that if you are using the Capacity Edition, then you need to keep within the licenced limit. Otherwise you need to buy a licence for the next tier of capacity, I.e. amount of data that can be backed up
