Backup Exec 2010 BEDB detailed information (Entity-relationship model of database, etc) ?

Hi all,

We have a project now where the customer asks detailed information about the BE database, they ask about the Entity-relationship model of database, data dictionary, configuration parameters of the database, etc.

It is possible to obtain this kind of information (note that is not the source code)?  Is there any Symantec documentation where these details out?

Thanks in advance,

Sorry no - the complete schema and relationships within the database are only known to our engineering and development teams and are not made available publicly.

Small sections of it are discussed in the public domain.

EDIT: Oh and although you could work out most of it for yourself, as some of the relationships between tables are via one of the BE Services and not via a coded inside SQL relationship it could take a while.

hi,

we are intrested to know, if the results of the backup jobs are inside the database or if there is a option to include that?

We want that information on a central place and don't want to parse all the logfiles of the different master servers.

Is it easily possible to move to a central BEDB ?

thx

Hi there

First to answer fleschgordon

At this current time you cannot consolidate the Backup Exec databases from more than one server into the same SQL instance because the database for each server has to be called BEDB. You can achieve some centralized control with CASO - but there would still be a requirement for small local SQL intances for the MMS servers.

Symantec do not encourage directly accesssing the database so very little official information exists, however you will only put yourself out of a supported configuration if you directly change any of the data inside the database using SQL commands and tools (unless under the guidance of Tech Support or following a public Symanetc article)

There are posts on these forums and on other websites that were made by 3rd parties that provide some of the databsse table information, not sure if there is enough to achieve what to you want.

Michael,

the Backup Exec Central Administration Server Option is build for that purpose:

I'd also add that because the database is something Symantec don't expect the customer to be querying or modifying, there's no guarantee that the schema won't change between versions, so what is true for one version of BE may not be true for subsequent versions.
