I've just inherited the job of maintaining a Windows SBS 2008 Server. It has a Quantum tape drive and Backup Exec 2010 installed. It has a backup job configured, but it hasn't run in months. When I try to run this job, I get the error message, "The job failed with the following error: The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding." I have not had any success with Google or the program's Help feature. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Stop and restart the be services There is actually a way to do this in bulk from within the console under TOOLS.
or reboot the server
Then try again.

I would also suggest that you apply the latest updates by running Live Update from the tools menu. If your service is crashing, there is a good chance that one of the patches may resolve your problem.
