there are any special Instruction to upgrade Backup Exec 2010 R2 to Backup Exec 2010 R3.

There is no special instruction regarding the upgrade. However, you might want to stop all the BE services, including the BEDB instance, and make a copy of the Data and Catalog directories under the BE installation directory. This is in case anything goes wrong with the upgrade and you need to re-install BE.

I run Backup Exec 2010 R@ and when I ran live update I saw R3 available. Can I install R3 from live update and have a fully function copy?

No. You cannot upgrade to R3 through LU. You need to download and use the installation DVD. I think the R3 thing through LU just give you a notice to download the installation DVD.

Hello pkh,
Upgrade R2 to R3 the installation failed.
In the beginning everything looks well, then at the end:
Symantec LiveUpdate ---> the installation was successful
Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2005 ---> the installation was successful
Symantec Backup Exec ---> the installation failed.
NEXT
The installation was not completed successfull.
I send you the end of the log
What I'm doing wrong?

It looks like there may be a problem with your media. MSI is returning ERROR 2, which is "The system cannot find the file specified."
This error is being returned when we try and load the MSI for processing. If your running off of a network, copy the media locally and re-run the upgrade. There is also an MD5 hash of the ISO posted on File Connect which you can use to validate the ISO as well, prior to burning it to DVD. If your using virtual DVD mounting tools, try another option like physical DVD.
Hope this helps,
Nick

Hello Nick,
thank you for your reply.
I had extracted the iso-file. Maybe the path was to long .
I put the installation path into the root of the drive, start browser.exe again and it runs!
You brought me to the right idea!
thx

We just bought the Symantec backup exec 2010 r2 a month back. IT has been just a week now that we implemented it in production. Now I want to upgrade to R3, as such can anyone confirm if the license would be the same or do i need to buy new license. Further, what is the procedure to install r3, download from the site and install fresh ? would the r2 license work with it then ? I just want to upgrade because of the issues i am facing with sql backup which keeps failing .

Its stronly recommended to upgrade to R3 as it has fixed most of the known issues of R1 and R2.
Refer to the 1st post by PKH for backing up BEDB.
After upgrade run Live Update multiple time to install all the latest patches.
Also dont forget to upgrade the remote agents

Thanks for advise.
Really sorry, I have a stupid question, How to backup BEDB?
My Case, I have 4 server in media Server. (1 Central Admin, 3 Managed media server)
so I need to upgrade them one by one.
Should I need to backup BEDB one by one? or only in Central admin server?
Finally, do you know any website about the difference between R2 & R3?
I try to search , however seem cannot find them.
Thanks so much for your attention.
