Has this device & job worked previously?

Anyting in the Windows event logs?  Sounds like a hardware or communication glitch.

This may help http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH38608

Make sure all the connections between tape library and media server are fine and tape drives are using latest symantec drivers.

Refer http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH144492

Go to the BE installation directory, run tapeinst.exec, uninstall any instance of your tape drive and then install it.  This will install the latest Symantec drivers.

You can use Tape Device Configuration Wizard or tapeinst.exe from install directory to install symantec drivers to tape drives. Also make sure your robot is using Windows driver, i.e it should be listed as Unlnown Medium Changer under Windows Device Manager.

Expand your medium changer devices and see whether your library is listed as an Unknown Medium Change with a Microsoft driver.  If it has a HP driver, change it using the procedures below

You should also test your library for hardware errors using the HP LT&T utility.  Make sure that you select the write test and that you have stopped the BE services first.

Self test passed.

Connectivity Test passed.

Read/ Write test failed. Is it Hardware problem?

Thanks.

The failure is because your did not give it a tape to write on.  For the write test, you got to give it a tape to write on.  Note that the data on that tape would be wiped out during the test

You should update the firmware for both the library and the tape drive to the latest firmware.
