I have Backup Exec 2010 R3 installed on a Windows Storage Server 2008 and I'm going to rebuild the server with Server 2008 R2. I've found article TECH129826 "How to migrate Backup Exec to another server with a different Windows OS version". I plan to copy the data in Path \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\ to another server (or CD), rebuild the same server with 2008 R2, install Backup Exec 2010, and follow the rest of the instructions in TECH129826. Here is what I'm concerned about. I am currently using an encryption key. After following these steps, will I lose access to the backup tapes, or is there a way to move the encryption key? The steps in the article do no mention the encryption key.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

The encryptions keys are maintained in the Backup Exec database so as long as you migrate the database the keys will move
That said you should have your keys documented in a firesafe anyway and they can then be re-entered manually if needed.

The above post is spot on... below are a few doc's on encryption as well.
