Backup Exec 2010 Won't Recognize New Barcodes

DonChico
Level 2

We are running BE 2010 with a Qualstar tape library using Quantum Ultrum LTO5 tapes.  The library sees all the tapes with barcodes that start with four zeros:  Example (000043L5).  We just added 5 new tapes with barcodes starting with higher numbers and only 3 zeros: Example (000110L5).  After importing the new media, BE is not seeing the new barcodes but does recognize the new media if I manually inventory the slots and will also let me manually label the media.  Why won't it recognize the new barcodes?

Hi,

Check your barcode rules and make sure they are correct...

Check the link below for further reference:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH92890

Also make sure you're using the Symantec drivers for your tape drive to rule out anything if you're using the manufacturer's drivers for whatever reason.

Thanks!

I don't know about Quantum libraries, but for HP libraries, there is a setting in the library which states how many characters of the barcode label is recognised.  Access your Quantum library using the Web interface and see whether you can find a similiar setting.  If there is such a setting, you should change it to 8 characters.  You might want to consult your Quantum vendor on this matter.
