Backup Exec 2010 and NetApp Restore error: 0xe000fe29 - Authentication failed on connection to the server. Make sure that the user account has the appropriate permissions and that the password was typed correctly.

Hi All,

I'm trying to restore VEEAM Backup files from tape and redirecting the files to a NetApp SAN but am getting the error message in the title.

The Symantec service account has been give local administrator access on the SAN and the trusted hosts on the SAN have been set to allow all:
trusted.hosts  *

I've also tried using a local NetApp admin account but i'm still getting the access is denied message when trying to save to, or select the SAN as a restore point.

See below output from SGMON:

Did you disable NDMP on the NetApp?

Although this is more related to backing up a NetApp, you might want to see whether any of these suggestions help.

Just to confirm pkh's point

1) Share level (CIFS) restores on a filer or NAS that in itself supports NDMP do need the NDMP Protocol to be disabled in the same way that you must do in order to backup over CIFS from such a device.

2) If you are trying to restore data actually using the NDMP option then the data MUST have been backed up with the NDMP Option as well.

3) At least one of the relatively recent versions of OnTap did cause problems for CIFS backups and restores in that even with the NDMP Option disabled some kind of response was being returned to a Port 10,000 request. The solution to this was either use a software firewall on the BE media server to block outbound requests to 10,000 against only the IP addresss of the NetApp, although I believe this was eventually fixed by installing an updated version of OnTap. (make sure you look at our HCL/SCL documents if updating OnTap)

...simple solution if you have the disk space locally on the media server is to restore to disk, and then copy to the NetApp.

Thanks!

Thanks Colin/pkh,

I'm certain that the data wasn't backed up using the NDMP option.

I've disabled NDMP on the NetApp and will get back with the results soon.

The Symantec community is awesome by the way =)

Hi Craig,

Unfortunately, I don't have enough disk space on the media server :(

Thanks
