Hi,

Open up Add/Remove Programs and run a repair of BE.

Also check and make sure that no antivirus is blocking the BE services for whatever reason. If they are, you can put in exclusions for those services.

Thanks!

I try to repair installation but installer get error because service (Backup Exec Server) crash randomly. I exclude Symantec directory from McAfee Viruscan 8.7

Still crashing:

...try stopping the services first, and then running a repair. Stop your AV while you do it.

An issue has been seen where you're not being told to restart your system after install when you should and some pending install operations aren't completed.  Try restarting the system to see if the problem goes away.

Hope this helps,

Bill

...you might want to uninstall SP1...there seems to be an issue with it.

Hi

Restarded a few times but the problem always comes back at 4am.

I will uninstall SP1 today and see what happens tonight.

Thank you!

I also forgot to tell you have uninstalled Backup Exec and reinstalled it but the problem came back.

And changed Database maintenance to 12pm as it was set to 4am and I thought that was the problem, but it still crashes at 4am.

So removing SP1 is the next step...

Check this technote which has a workaround for the issue if the crash is on iplops.dll :

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH190472 : Backup Exec server service crashes 4 AM after installing Backup Exec 2012 Service Pack 1

Thanks,

-Sush...

The issue identified in this thread about SP1 does not affect every user of SP1, while I understand it is affecting those that have posted here (and a few other posts on SymConnect). Please check out this technote for the current work around: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH190313 (if you are hitting the serdll.dll error).
We have also had many users indicate that a repair operation from Add/Remove of Backup Exec and a reboot resolved the issue for them.

Please keep checking the technote over the next 2 days for the solution to be posted.

I wanted to send out a note to everyone on this thread that we are in the process of uploading SP1a to the Symantec Live Update Servers. I'm expecting this update to be available for download through Live Update around 7pm EST (6/12/2012).
