Backup Exec 2012 can't backup VMDK files

Backup 00641-Full -- The job failed with the following error: Failed to log on to Microsoft Windows.

Ensure that your logon credentials are correctly entered and that they meet the following minimum requirements to log on to a Windows computer:

   - The credentials used are a member of the Backup Operators group.
   - For Windows Vista/2008 and later, the credentials have the Log on as a batch job privilege.

Additional privileges may be required to access resources on the Windows computer.

1. I've tried creating a new Logon Account in BE.

2. Account is in Logon as Batch, Logon as Service.

3. Account is in both the Local Admin group and Backup Operators group.

4. Can ping both machines in both directions.

5. When I edit the backup job the credentials pass with the old and new logon accounts.

6. I've recreated parts of the original job and tried a brand new backup job.

Please help!!!

For all but the most basic of servers Backup Operators is NOT enough permissions. For instance it would not be enough for an Exchange server or a Domain Controller (even with the Local Admin role)

I am also slightly puzzled as your title mentions VMDK files (which would be associated with VMware Backups) but the error message is usually linked to a Windows backup. As such exactly what are you backing up using what method of backup when you see this error.

As a first step (withouth knowing what you are backing up) give Domain Admin Permissions.
