Backup Exec 2012 disk storage management

The question is related to the management of the storage disk folder, both the deduped ones than normal disk folder.

For what I search in the Administrator Manual or looking inside available tools on the console menus I cannot find something that show me exactly the content of the disk folder from the point of view of virtual "tapes" and/or "disk images". I remember in BE2010 I was able to browse in the storage content and to format/delete, assign to scratch virtually everything.

The only thing I can see and do fromt the storage view is to access to the details and then, i.e., to the backup sets.

I've seen that from here I can delete the backup sets but is not clear how this space is really removed from the disk to free space in disk storage!

Worst...I cannot sort by backup sets size, date, server ecc clicking on the column header as I expect!4

Regards,

This behaviour is by design. But if you want to see the BKF, IMG, OST files then add the registry key mentioned in the following article :

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH179265 (How to enable or display Hidden backup to disk or Disk Storage (BKF, IMG, OST) media in Backup Exec 2012.)

Hope this helps.

The dedup folder and the disk storage are different storage media and are handled differently.

For the dedup folder, disk management is handled by the dedup engine and this has not changed with BE 2012.  You would still see a bunch of .ost files and you cannot delete them manually.

For disk storage, the management is not handled by DLM.  See this blog on how disk storage is handled.

Thank you both.

What's about the sorting in the backup set view? Clicking on the header of the col I expect to have data sorted: this does not happen.
