Backup Exec 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 doesnt load virtfile.sys

I have Backup Exec 2012 with all updates via Liveupdate installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64.

Eventlog on Startup report Event-ID 1060 with \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\VirtFile.sys cannot be loaded due to incompatibility.

With FLTMC VirtFile isnt displayed and Backup of Active Directory fails becaue VirtFile.sys wasnt loaded...

Hi Frank,

 

Could be that something was uninstalled and it didn't remove all the traces correctly.

Create this file in the location again and the problem should be solved.

EDIT: On second thoughts, repair BE first via Add/Remove Programs and then run the backup again to see if this reinstalls the file.

Thanks. I copied the virtfile.sys from the BackupExec-Folder to system32 and the error is gone after reboot an backup works fine.

The virtfile.sys in system32 was 122kb an the file from BackupExec-Folder was 112kb...
