Backup Exec 2012 upgrade to SP4 failing

Hi,

I am attempting to upgrade our Backup Exec installation from Backup Exec 2012 SP2 to SP4 (installed on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2 32bit Server)

The install fails with the following error each time - "02-26-2015,14:30:01 : V-225-136: The patch failed to install. Return code: 1603 ***To search for information about this error, click here "

I have disabled AV and tried installing as various different local and domain users all with local admin rights and rebooted server.

Any help greatly appreciated ...

Try running the SP4 installer as an administrator

When logged in as a domain user with local admin rights I right clicked on the installer and selected "Run as" and used the local admin credentials - same error.

The process is as follows: the install goes from "Validating install" to "Copying new files", to "Patching files", to "Writing system registry values" to "Rolling back action"

C: drive has approx 6GB free and Backup Exec is installed on the D: drive with approx 50GB free space ...

No joy with running installer as administrator. The install goes from "Validating install" to "Copying new files" to "Patching files" to "Writing system registry values" then goes to "Rolling back action".

...have you stopped all the BE services manually and then tried the installation?

Thanks!

This usually occurs if the media server as renamed and not updated in BE. Follow the workaround as per this KB - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH212637
