Backup Exec 2012 - why the change?

Just upgraded from 2010R3 to 2012. If you thought Microsoft did a bad job with UI from office 2003 to 2007/2010, this is 100 times worse. What was symantec thinking? This is just the starting. Going from Job centric to server centric is even a bigger pain.  I used to backup multiple servers to disk in a single job and then duplicated to a tape. This job would write to single tape. But now there are jobs for each server which all start at the same time so when they finish they all start to duplicate and take up all availabe tape drive in the library, so now I end up with multiple tapes. The solution from symantec is to monitor the jobs and figure out the timing, and send them to a single  tape drive, how backwards is this?  Wish they go back to 2010 job centric interface. Some of the changes are OK and don't affect people that much if their backup devices are all Disk & Cloud but if you have tape in the mix then you are in for surprise.

With all due respect, there has been a lot, and I mean a LOT of discussion around this. This should have been your first point of call...

BE 2012 was released nearly 6 months and has seen Symantec get hammered for it. People new to the product don't seem to have a problem with it, but it is the users who have used BE 2010 and before who seem to have suffered most with the change.

That said, Symantec has had numerous user sessions (and been trawling the forums which has seen a number of their senior guys involved) to gain insight into what is required. My point being: the information has been there for all to see what has happened.

That said, check the Beta page for BE 2012 R2 and hop onto it. Load it on a VM and then check out the changes.
