Followed instructions to reinstall Backup exec (see below)

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH62744

Backed up,1, Data folder ( Location <Root>:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\ )

2. Catalogs ( Location <Root>:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\ )

3. Besernum.xml - License key information file (Locations see TECH87335)

After reinstalling Backup Exec, all services started with no Runtime error. I then copied over the data and catalogs folder, which put me back to square one.
Uninstalled / Renstalled, didn't bother restoring data & catalog. Re-created backup jobs.

1) Uninstall .Net framework.  I think BE 2012 uses .Net 3.5.  Uninstall all the .Net versions if you can.

2) Repair BE.  This will also install the the necessary .Net framework.

Try this command instead:-

beserver.exe -console > C:\log.txt

Difference being beserver is one word without any space and secondly, > is being used over >> as > will create the file if it does not exist.

And is BE 2012 fully updated ?

beserver.exe -console > C:\log.txt, still creates an empty file

command replies with :-

C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec>beserver.exe -console > C:\log.txt
Sorted: 0: msgq0000000000.dat
Sorted: 1: msgq0000000100.dat

Stop any running BE service and rename the existing msgq files (Found in \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data) and then restart all services. If the server service still fails to start, rerun the -console command.

Tried renaming msq files, services still won't start. still get a C++ runtime  error

msgq0000000100.dat & msgq0000000000.dat re-created.

C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec>beserver.exe -console > C:\log.txt
Sorted: 0: msgq0000000000.dat
Sorted: 1: msgq0000000100.dat

c:\log.txt still empty

Would recommend you to log a formal support case so that we can have a look @ your setup and figure out what's going wrong.

Hello,

I have the same problem on two servers 2003 for the last week.
Backup Exec 2012 is nevertheless settled for 3 years and worked perfectly.
Now the services do not start any more and the same Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library message appears.

You can help me.

Thank you
