Hi All,
One of my clients wants to purchase BE 2014 Server license + Symantec Desktop & Laptops option;
He wanted a confirmation that BE 2014 has the feature of IMAGE BACKUP/RESTORE CAPABILITY;
Also, Is it possible to restore the server image to another server incase of a crash?
Secondly, Is it possible to take image of Desktop/Laptop using the Symantec DLO licenses?
Thanks in advance!!
Cheers!!

Whilst Gurvinder has given useful info already a few key points
1) With the exception of virtual machine backups, Backup Exec is NOT an image (sometimes called block) level backup product. It is a file level backup product that does have an SDR capability for "bare metal" machine operating system recovery, although if databases are involved the capability does NOT provide a single pass restore mechanism. Is this is what you need then Symantec System Recovery (SSR and a different product) may be a better fit.
2) DLO is ONLY designed to protect end user files and data (for instance file in My documents , pst files, files in custom paths - all on local disks) it is NOT designed to be a full DR product for the operating systems of individual workstations and therefore is also not an image product. As it happens Symantec System Recovery may also be a solution to this requirement.
3) Neither Symantec Systems Recovery or DLO can write backups to tape - a feature which is provided by Backup Exec.
4) DLO's deduplicatioon capability is at a file level, Backup Exec's it at a chunk level within the files. SSR does not do deduplication

Refer https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/symantec-backup-exec-2014-blueprint-simplified-disa... for SDR
Symantec Desktop and Laptop Option can be Installed seperately. You will have to Install DLO agent on desktop and laptops, create profile as to what exactly needs to be backed up from desktop/laptop. This also has inbuilt dedupe storage which helps to ensure only unique data makes it into the storage.
