Backup Exec 9.1 to NAS Buffalo LinkStation

I am trying to get my backup files onto a new NAS Buffalo LinkStation and am running into problems.  The first thing that I am trying to do is create a Device, Backup to Disk.  The error that comes up states "unable to create new backup folder.  access denied."

I am not sure how to proceed.  The NAS file format is XFS(which I am not familiar with).  I have created a user-defined selection for the path to the NAS.

How do I fix the logins?  Where do I fix them, on the NAS or inside backup exec?

Thanks for your help!

logon to the media server as the BackupExec Service account and try to map to the share with Windows Explorer.  If that doesn't, explicitly add the ServiceAccount with full rights.

You can setup the backup to the IP address, but backup exec doesn't recognize that as a valid path.

so you cansetup a hosts entry for the ip address.

Here is the solution: (or "a" solution)

#1

make sure you don't have any user permissions set on the buffalo share

(i.e.  basic shared folder setup)

#2

Setup a hosts entry in the HOSTS file on the server that is running backup exec

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

put in the ip of the nas, followed by the name of the host entry that you want to use

example:

buffalobutt     192.168.0.250

#3

go to your devices in buexec and add the b2d folder.

just make sure that you use the hosts entry as the pathname of the share

example:

\\buffalobutt\backup\dailybackup

#4

tada! it works.

everyone else in every other article i've read seemed to give up,

...and started talking unix language, blah, blah, blah.

come one...fall back upon your basics people.

microsoft + veritas = hosts entries can be your friend.
