Hi,
is there a way to implement Software Compression in Backup Exec using multicores (multithread)?
We'have a dedicated multicore machine, and we use mainly Disk Based backups.
Backup exec is performing on a single core during software compression.
Can it be done multicore?
Is an update to add this function possible?
That would be very very useful in Disk Based backup situations.

Hi,
You can try tying BE to a specific core/s through Task Manager but there is no process that controls Software Compression, so the answer to your question would be no if you want to nail it down to this specifically.

I doubt it will happen.
Threaded applications take advantage of multiple CPUs when there are multiple simultaneous tasks (in separate threads) or a single taks can be divided into separate tasks.
BE's software compression is working on a single continuous stream of data, so I doubt there is much benefit to be gained.

I see, that's quite a pity.
Can i make a Feature Request, in order to add the Multithread mode to the Software Compression
in one of the future updates (using BE 2010 R3)?
I think it would be a great improvement in the backup experience of many users that use Disks Backups
(much more usable space on not-RTC storages and less bandwidth needed for lan backups).
I hope this will be implemented.
