Hi BE Experts,
I have an existing BE server using tapes with barcode, I bought 50 more tapes to be use.
Sadly I recieve a news from supplier that the newly bought tapes that are coming at the end of this month is with out barcode labels.
Question:
1.Can I temporarily use the tapes without barcodes simustaneously with my old tapes.
2. Can I just label them using this guide and use the tapes without barcode. https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/doc/59226269-99535599-0/v53891080-99535599

You MAY be able to use tapes with no bar codes. The first thing to check is to see if your tape library requires bar codes labels. Some libraries require them, some do not, some tape libraries are user configurable.
If your tape library will work without bar codes, then YES, you can use tapes without bar codes with Backup Exec. But I advise against it. There are many advantages to using tapes with bar codes. The conversion process to add a bar code to a tape after it has been used in Backup Exec is not trivial.
I would suggest ordering or making some bar code labels and applying them yourself before Backup Exec uses the tape.

When I was trying out barcode labels, I did not want to barcode all my tapes. The resulting mixture of barcoded and non-barcoded tapes gave me a lot of problems. I can't remember what the problems were because it was a long time ago, but these problems disappeared once I put barcode labels on ALL my tapes. If you do have a mixture of barcoded and non-barcoded tapes, do tell us whether you encountered any problems.
