Backup Exec and Quantum ATL1500

I've had BE running with a Quantum ATL 1500 for a several years. Recently, the Quantum had some hardware issues and had to be replaced. The new library is the same model but a different serial number and is not being seen by BE. I've upgrade BE (for Windows servers) to 11.0d 7170 and have run the device configuration, but the library still shows up offline and is not recognized with I initialize it.

What are my options?

See page 31 on the 11d Hardware Capatability List:

ftp://exftpp.symantec.com/pub/support/products/Backup_Exec_for_WindowsNT/282249.pdf

The ERROR_INVALID_NAME error that you see in the BEDIAG is because our SCSIChanger service does not recognize your device's inquiry string (ATL     1500) so it cannot load support for it.

The inquiry string for your device must match exactly what is on the HCL, which the 1500 does not.

Is this device on a newer version of the software so that an upgrade should fix the problem?

The HCL's for every version of Backup Exec are publically available from here:

The device actually is an M1500 which is on the lists for 9 through 11.

Is the inquiry string something controlled by the library itself. Something that Quantum should be able to help change?

I goofed and was looking under ATL rather than Quantum. My bad on that.

It's been a while since I was asked about this device. Now that my memory serves me better, I recall seeing this before.

Look at bullet point #1 for the ATL 1500 (I stuck with 11d for this one):

Any tape drive supported with the M4^DATA^MagFile inquiry string is also supported with the ATL^^^^^M1500 or ATL^^^^^1500 inquiry string, and vice versa. The ATL^^^^^1500 inquiry string support can be found in DDI 11d (11.0) 20080215 7170 . Use latest DDI available <http://entsupport.symantec.com/umi/V-269-10 >.

Install the latest device driver for 11d and you should be golden. We do not work out of the box with that device, but will after you install the most up to date driver:
