Backup Exec install fails with SQL permission errors

Michael_Hadfiel

I'm attempting to install Backup Exec 16 on Windows 2008 R2.  I'm getting the following SQL error message during the install.

Cannot connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 with Backup Exec services account administrator. Do one of the following:
 - Specify a new account for the Backup Exec services that has elevated access to this SQL Server 2008
- Grant permission to account administrator to log on to this SQL Server 2008

Please advise.  Doesn't the administrator account already have permission to the local databases?

Hi,

depends...local or remote admin? Just check and see, but not sure Domain Admins are added by default.

Also, you use BE with specific account details that run the services, and this could also mean issues when backing up SQL if this account doesn't have the correct permissions.

Thanks!

Is this server also a DC? as I think Microsoft did at one point add some restrictions to SQL secuity that only applied on a DC.
