Backup Exec job engine system service not responding

EOS58
Level 4

Over the last few weeks my Backup Exec 2010 server has been unable to successfully complete a full backup.  The job usually fails about 3/4 through the job.  No subsequent backup jobs will run until the server has restarted.  The server over this last week was able to complete daily differential backups without issue.  Yesterday's scheduled full backup failed and I executed a retry and below is the resulting event after running 6.5 hours.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

You are on the base BE 2010.  You should upgrade to BE 2010 R3 which is the latest version and there are a lot of fixes for problems. Your existing licence keys will work.  You can download BE 2010 R3 from either the fileconnect site or

http://trialware.norton.com/files/fc/Backup_Exec_2010_13.0.5204_MultiPlatforms_Multilingual_DVD.iso

After your upgrade, do not forget to run LiveUpdate a couple of time to update it to SP2 and the latest hotfixes.

After you have upgraded to R3, push out the remote agent again.

I discovered what caused the problem.  It was a recently created virtual machine (Windows 2008-r2) running MS SQL DE 2008R2.  When I removed the paticular server from the selection list it completed the backup job just fine.  Not sure why this server caused the problem.  I am guessing it was something related to the database backup.  I will have to investigate further on Monday.  I will be upgrading to BE2012 soon, we purchased the licenses, but I have not upgraded yet.

Before you upgrade to BE 2012, do read my article

I ran an isolated full backup of the particular server that caused the fault.  To my surprise it completed successfully!  However, I am in the process of updating my server to 2010-R3-SP2.  Maybe subsequent updates will resolve the problem.  When I am comfortable with the changes in 2012, I will make the jump.
