Backup Exec on 2 physical tape drives on the nework

here is the scenario.
is it possible?

2 Physical Servers Exchange running mailboxes in a cluster as Active and Passive and a 3rd server is a hub Transport.
Each Mailbox Servers has individual tape drives Ultrium 3 SCSI (400 gigs).  The Mailbox data size is 600 gigs.

my question is can I run the the Backup exec to perform the tape bakup using both tape drives since ne tape drive wouldn't be able to backup the data on one tape.

Hello,

Backup Exec supports TAPE Drives connected to the Backup Exec Server only. You wont be able to perform backups on a TAPE which is NOT connected to the Backup Exec Server.

Hope this helps...

LTO3 would have a compressed capacity of 800GB if it got 2:1. best bet would be around 1.4:1, but you might get more with the Exchange Information Store.
However, if you have BEWS 2010, you can deduplicate that data to disk (assuming you have enough disk space), and hence do smaller backups to tape once done. Something else to look into.
Otherwise the only other thing to do is look into buying an LTO4 drive to take care of this (800GB/1.6TB).
And you will need full installations of BEWS on each server that has a tape drive too!

Laters!

Hi Dev,

What you think about cascaded drive pool for using 2 drives on one media server?????

We can not give 100% surety for compression as said by CraigV......

Or configuring 2 diffrant exchange jobs on diff. drive connected on single media server.
