Given your environment, you should look at Netbackup instead of BE.

To start with make sure the server you want to backup are supported . refer Compatibility guide

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH175581

If your enviornment mostly have linux based servers, i would suggest you go with netbackup.

To expand on what RahulG wrote, make sure the exact versions and update/service pack levels of the operating systems you use are on the software compatibility list (SCL). Be aware that when using Backup Exec you cannot install the latest service pack without losing support. You have to wait until Symantec adds it to the SCL which often takes well over a year.

As an example, referring to your list of systems, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is supported, but as per today only up to Update 2. If you want to run the current version RHEL 6.5 or one of its two predecessors then Backup Exec will not be supported.

In addition review the HCL to make sure your devices are supported also the other helpful product information located in this document: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-2012-where-find-manuals-videos-and-train...
