Hi,

How to configure a tape device with a virtual machine. When the device is not visible in the device manager.

Its recommended not to install Backup Exec core product on VM as its very difficult to make the 

tape device recognized by OS. BE will only detect the tape drive if it appears in the Windows Device 

Manager.

Just to clarify the statement in the document pasted by Parhee means we will only support you if you can prove to us that the same tape device and scsi card combination has the same problem if being used in real hardware and not passed through to a VM - which in most instances means we don't support tape devices inside a VM.

Also if you get the backup to work it is also down to you to test that a restore will work, which might also need a test for can you restore using a different drive on a real server if the backup was done on a virtual server.
