My backups are failing when I use DAT72 tapes. They were working ok with DDS4 tapes but I needed more tape capacity. I get the following error in the log:
(Server: "SERVER") (Job: "Daily Backup") Daily Backup -- The job failed with the following error: A tape read/write error has occurred. This is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive. Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again. If the problem persists, try a different tape. You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues.
I have updated the Symantec tape drivers and all possible application updates. I have also updated the SCSI controller firmware. I have cleaned the tape drive several times and tried several new tapes. Here's what I have:
Symantec BackupExec 11d Version 11.0 Rev. 6235 w/ SP3
Dell PowerVault 100T DAT72 drive
Driver - Symantec Corporation - V5.1 Date - 1/12/2007
Windows 2003 Server SBS
Any help in resolving this would be appreciated. Thanks.
