Backup MS Exchange - First Storage Group Corrupt

Chris_Watson_2

Veritas Back Up Exec for Windows Servers
Small Business Suite v 9.1 rev 4691

Windows 2003 Exchange Server Small Business

Error Message:-

Backup - \\MASTER\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group Access denied to database Mailbox Store (MASTER).
Database or database element is corrupt

Have searched this forum and found the notes regarding Shadow Copy Components\user data, and have removed these from selections, yet the problem persists.

Anybody got any other ideas ?

Hmm, SBS is a whole other animal which I do not know much about, so it could be part of the problem. The most common cause I have seen or heard of is the shadow copy component issue you noted. Another one which can cause that error is if you store the exchange logs on a seperate server from the database.

Since SBS is kinda self contained (from what I have heard of it) it could also be some sort of rights issue for you.

Hello,

Please refer the following technotes.
Title:
"The Backup Exec data store encountered a problem during the operation. See the job log for details." (a000fea9 HEX or e000fea9 HEX) is reported in a failed backup job log or "Database or database element is corrupt" (a000fea9 HEX or e000fea9 HEX) is reported when backing up the Microsoft Exchange Information Store.

I'm running into the same issue. The only difference for me is a different hex code, but the message is the same. The "Completion status" section of the job log shows:

Final error: 0xa0008488 - Access is denied.

Then under the "errors" section, I see:

Backup - \\MATRIX\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group Access denied to database Mailbox Store (MATRIX).
Database or database element is corrupt

I have checked the referenced articles, and when I look at my file selections, in the graphical layout, "Exchange" isn't even an option under "Shadow copy components -> User data". And in the text layout, I see an explicit exclusion for "Shadow copy components\User data\Exchange server\*.* /SUBDIR /EXCLUDE".

I'm stumped.
