Backup Of Exchange 2013

FORGIVEN

We are using BE 15 to backup our Windows and Linux servers (virtual and physical). 2 of the virtual servers are exchange 2013 with 1 DAG. In the past we have just backed up the DAG and not the servers. I am wondering how we should be backing this up. Should we backup just the DAG or the 2 servers or maybe we should do both servers and the DAG. What is the recommended way to back up this config?

Any distributed configuration residing on multiple server, for consistancy sake we recommend to backup with the help of the agent.

So in this case , you should backup the DAG

Gurv: the question isn't about backing up the DAG...it's about backing up the DAG and not the servers, or backing up the DAG AND both servers...

FORGIVEN: This is an issue of recoverability and obviously you need to backup the DAG. However, if you don't back up the servers, consider the length of time to recover your Exchange environment if you don't backup the servers.

You'd have to recreate the servers, recluster them, then load the BE agent and restore the data before probably doing some sort of configuration within Exchange to get up and running again.

Find out from a Microsoft perspective what is required to be backed up to  bring your Exchange enviroment up to production state again, and make those selections within BE.

I'd assume System State, and any installation directories.

Thanks!
