Backup Problems - Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource

Currently we have a Server 2008 Box, running Exchange 2007 and Backup Exec 2010 that is failing to backup our Mailboxes and Public Folders but is able to backup all other components including the Information Stores .  It results in,  Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource.  I have run through Article: TECH71780 with no success.  The account being used in a Domain Administrator with a mailbox that is not hidden from the GAL.  No Remote agents are in use.

The job Log results in

Unable to attach to \\ServerName\Microsoft Exchange Public Folders.
V-79-57344-33932 - Unable to attach to a resource.  Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.  If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.

However if an individual backup is setup with only "Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes" and "Microsoft Exchange Public Folders " selected the job completes successfully.

Any suggestions or ideas to resolve would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Hello,

Create a new account in AD named : symantec with following settings:
1  : Member of the Domain Admin group and Local Admin Group if Exchange is a member server
2  : Create a Mailbox for Symantec, send a test email and oprn it in OWA to activate the Mailbox.
3  : Make sure that the Mailbox is not hidden from the Global Address List.

4  : Add the account "symantec" as Exchange Server Administrator in Exchange Management Console.

Hope this helps...

Hi MRAEL,

What happens if you select the Information Store in a new job, and back that up. Not selecting the IS + Public Folders, but the Information Store as you would normally see it when using the agent?

If this works, your original selection list is corrupted. All you need to do is point your job to the selection list you just used then.

I have already created and tested additional user accounts and verified their group member- ship and their mailbox existence and that they are not hidden from the GAL.

Testing Backup selections as per suggestion, will keep you up to date on results.
