We have a Hyper V Cluster and we are not sure what needs to be selected for backup. There is a ClusterStorageFolder that is present. Do we need to select that folder for backup? If it is deselected we do not have the SSR option. If we select the ClusterStorageFolder the backup is too large.
We need to take a snapshot of this hosts in the event of disaster.
What is the best practice for backing up in this scenario?

Hi Sacha,
Check below and see if these are relevant:

The Admin Guide will also have further details on what needs to be selected.
Thanks!

This still does not make things clearer for me. Any other suggestions?

When you take a backup of a Hyper-V cluster, all you need to select for backup is from the Microsoft Hyper-V HA Virtual Machines node. And not from the \ClusterStorage folders. If you select the \ClusterStorage folders as well, this is akin to backing up twice.
And would you pls post a screenshot of the SSR icon as this option is not available during the Hyper-V cluster selections. The SSR option would be available only if you are trying to make the backup selections via a Hyper-V node (and not the Hyper-V Cluster itself).
Have attached a screenshot of how the Hyper-V cluster resource and backup selections look like.

Thank you VJWare. We were able to sort out the Cluster selections for backup. WHat about the host selections. We would like to take a SSR of the Hosts in the event of a disaster but if we deslect the ClusterStorage Folder as shown in the screenshot SSR is turned off.
Any other suggestions?

Afaik, this folder is not a critical component for the recovery of the Hyper-V host. You can add an exclusion for this directory in the registry and still keep SSP on.
Have a look @ this blog on the exclusion - https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/exclude-files-simplified-disaster-recovery-sdr-backup-backup-exec-2012
Would recommend to still test backup and especially SDR restore post the exclusion.

Can you send the step by step instructions on how this is done VJware?

Using registry editor, browse to the path ~ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Simplified System Protection\
Create a new key named User-Defined Exclusion Resources. Under this key, create a new key C:
Now, from the backup selections, if you deselect the ClusterStorage folder, SDR would still be ON.
Run a full backup as usual and then test SDR recovery. This KB lists the instructions on running the SDR recovery - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH180099
