I have read the Knowledge Base Article where where we refer to VMware KB to change the "blocksize datastore", sorry but I work in "working environment"....

I have try to exclude the SERVER2003_1.vmkd, but I have not understood if is possible exclude or not this file.

I await your comments, thanks.

Hello Marcoluvisi,

The above error may occur under the following conditions:   when a disk is provisioned to a Guest VM and the Disk Manager in the Guest VM shows it as a Unallocated disk,   Snapshot files were not deleted in the datastore,  or/and There is an attempt to take a backup of a VM that has been removed from inventory.

to resolve this you can

  • Remove the provisioned disk from Vshpere client. OR Allocate the Disk in the Guest VM under Disk Management.
  • Delete the Snapshot (If present) under Snapshot Manager.
  • Browse to Datastore and check for any old Snapshot files under Guest VM folder.
  • If Snapshot files present, Take new Snapshot through Snapshot Manager.
  • Open the Snapshot Manager and check whether old snapshot listed.
  • Delete all the snapshots including the old one.
  • If old Snapshot not present, then delete the snapshot files from Datastore.
  • Edit the Backup job.  From selection details pane, delete any old VMs from the selection list

Re create and run the Backup

You can exclude a single .vmdk from the backup, however its not recommended... Have you selected the VMs via the vCenter or the ESX node ? If the former, do you get a successful backup when selecting via the ESX node ?

Hi Lmossla,

  • Browse to Datastore and check for any old Snapshot files under Guest VM folder.
  • If Snapshot files present, Take new Snapshot through Snapshot Manager.
  • Open the Snapshot Manager and check whether old snapshot listed.

Don't have any shapshot file

  • Delete all the snapshots including the old one.
  • If old Snapshot not present, then delete the snapshot files from Datastore.
