looking for help on a very strange issue, Backup exec 11D rev 7170, Sp4 running on Windows Server 2003 Sp2. on this server we have a dedicated Drive for Archiving old Jobs, then when the drive gets full we run an archive job on the folder, so it backs up the contents of the folder and then deletes the contents of the folders.
we do regularly have to restore files/folders from this location as we need to rerun some work in the company. so to do this , we use the search catalogs in the user interface, it always comes back with results that we want but when we select the files/folders to create the restore job, that works fine, backup exec then prompts for the correct tape, which gets inserted and then reply yes to the insert media prompt. the backup then starts to run and could run for 24 hours or more, have ended up cancelling the job after this long. the restore jobs are not big, perhaps a couple hundred MB or at most 1-5 GB.
however if we use the search catalogs to find the files/folders, find out the media that the job is on, then manually go in to restore job and select the items we want, the job runs perfectly in about 20 - 60 minutes depending on the volume of data that needs to be restored.
if i check the event logs, backup exec alerts, there is nothing to indicate where the problem is.
any suggestions or help is much appreciated as this is really bugging me.
