Backup exec - stop 'running backup'

Hi,

I'm running backup exec on windows NT Server.  From time to time a sceduled backup up does not complete and stays at a status of running.  This is usually due to not enough storage space on a tape.

The only way I seem to be able to cancel the backup from its running state is to reboot the NT Server. Does anyone know any other way around this without having to reboot the server.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Services
Then stop any services that are Backup Exec.  This may take a little while.  Once they have stopped then you can restart the services.  This will keep you from rebooting the server

Or

PStools... be careful with this one, since you can corrupt a database, if it is stopped... I would try stopping the job, and give the server some time to think about it (at least 30 minutes)  PSKILL will kill any service running on the server

When this happens, check the alerts tab, there should be an alert telling you to insert overwritable media - if you cancel this alert, the job will cancel automatically

Hope this helps
