Hello,
The problem with our backups in Backup Exec 2010 R3 is that they run till the end but always give status failed.
The backup however goes all the way.
Job ended: woensdag 21 december 2011 at 10:30:30 Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084b8 - An error occurred during backup. See the job log for details.
Final error category: Job Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33976
In the job log no other errors can be found, only exceptions.
I enabled the debug logging and found these ERROR!!! lines.
[7692] 12/21/11 01:44:32 [fsys\notes2] - Notes Agent: NSFDbOpen Call. D:\$RECYCLE.BIN\S-1-5-21-583907252-484763869-725345543-1487886\$I1HZJ34.nsf

[7692] 12/21/11 01:44:32 [fsys\notes2] - Notes Agent: Partitio[0] - CLNWrapper::DbOpen - ERROR!!! File does not exist
Strange thing is that this folder is excluded from the backup selections.
If anyone has any idea how to get this backup job to indicate "completed with exceptions" instead of failed, I would be forever grateful :)

Hi Jan,
Have you created a new selection list (create a new 1, not copy!) with the same details in and tried using this as a test?
If it works, it indicates corruption in the selection list.
Thanks!

Can you post the job log. It would be a good idea to check that. Also do you have lotus domino databases for the backup?
try recreating a new job with new selection and see if that helps

First of all, thank you for the replies.
I have tried so many things in the last weeks that I'm unsure if I tried a new selection list or have been copying or changing older ones.
I have now created a new one and deselected the folders that don't need to be in the backup.
@NeerThadarai
We have a Lotus Notes Domino server that is included in the backup.
I have attached the Job Log from the previous job that "failed".
Kind Regards,
Jan

Notes Agent: NSFDbOpen Call. D:\$RECYCLE.BIN\S-1-5-21-583907252-484763869-725345543-1487886\$I1HZJ34.nsf
This is your error. When you use the Domino agent and you select the whole disk, it will backup all the .nsf files on the disk. You deleted a .nsf file and it is in the Recycle Bin. The Domino agent try to back it up, but cannot access it. Just empty your recycle bin and you should be o.k.

Hello all,
Apparently creating a new selection list was not the solution.
I still get the exact same errors in the debug logging and a failed job as a result.
@pkh
I emptied the D:\$RECYCLE.BIN folder several times already, don't know where files come
from that are in it sometimes as we haven't deleted any NSF file in the last weeks.
The D:\$RECYCLE.BIN is also not selected in the selection list, not in the file backup section
or under the Lotus Database section, only the Domino folder is checked.
For the next backup run this evening I'm gonna uncheck the complete server and see
if the backup will give me "Completed with exceptions" status, as there are 3 other servers
still in the selection with 1 also being a Lotus server.

By right, all .nsf files are automatically excluded by AFE from the normal file selection. They are selected when you select a server/disk in the Domino database section. I don't select the whole disk. I only select the specific directories where the Domino databases are stored.
To isolate the problem,
1) empty the recycle bins on all servers.
2) separate the Domino backup from the other file backups.
12-28-2011 02:38 AM
The mystery continues.
Today the job failed but I can't find any traces in the DEBUG logging when I look for the string containing "ERROR!!!". The debug log files are 15 x 20MB.
So the recycle bin problem as mentioned earlier is no longer the cause it seems, or maybe it was never the cause.
I recreated my backup job as well as my selection list. Rebooted the backup server, emptied recycle bins like never before.
Backup failed reason :
Job ended: woensdag 28 december 2011 at 11:09:18
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084b8 - An error occurred during backup. See the job log for details.
Final error category: Job Errors

When following the link above it mentions excluding the Windows\GAC folder from a Lotus Notes backup but that has been done.
In the job log there are only exceptions about skipped files. I attached the job log of this "failed" job.
This problem has been going on for weeks now. Maybe it's time for a backup solution with some proper fault detection and logging.

Having the same issue here. It's really annoying how little information is provided with this error.

If I am not wrong, you are selecting the entire volume in your Domino Databases section. Try selecting just the directory where your mailboxes reside.
When you use the Domino agent and a database (mailbox) is skipped, it is usually because it is either being compacted or fixed. You should not schedule the Domino housekeeping jobs during the backup period.
