Backup failed

Hi,

I have created a Monthly backup set of 3 tapes, I have set he tapes not to be overwritten for 15 weeks, however they can be appended too. After the first tape was filled up it came up with a msg to add  additional over writable media  tape, the 2nd and  3rd tape was only 33GB used and had plenty of room, why would it not append to it when it said infinite append allowed.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

It is the way BE work.  When

It is the way BE work.  When you specify append, it will append to the first tape.  When this first tape is full, it will need an overwriteable tape for it to continue writing.  Presumably, the overwrite protection period for your other tapes has not expired, i.e., they cannot be overwritten.  Hence it asked for an overwriteable tape.

which will explain the various media set settings better.

Please see that your backup

Please see that your backup job use the Write Method

"Overwrite or Append"

in the General Tab

If you use the Overwrite the job will failed because the media is in the overwrite protection piriod.
