Backup fails first time after every server restart

Hi Guys

We currently have backup exec 12.5 small business edition on our SBS 2008 server. The daily backups run away fine, but when we restart the server for whatever reason the backup always fails with the following error:

EVENT ID: 34113
Backup Exec Alert: Job Failed (Server: "DELLSERVER") (Job: "RMS Daily Backup") RMS Daily Backup -- The job failed with the following error: The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding.

We then need to go into backup exec and restart the services, the backup then starts running fine.

Can anyone shine some light as to why this would be happening?

Kind Regards

Craig

Hi Craig,

Are your services configured to start up correctly? Some are set to start up automatically, and others are left as manual until called upon.

The following services should be set to Automatic:

Backup Exec Agent Browser

Backup Exec Device & Media Service

Backup Exec Job Engine

Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems

Backup Exec Server

SQL Server (BKUPEXEC)

Thanks!

I have just installed all the updates that where available, so hopefully this could resolve the issue.

Hi Craig

Currently every single Backup exec service is set to start automatically.

Kind Regards

OK, so if your media server, and any/all remote servers, are up-to-date, then you should look at the following:

1. Repair your BE installation through Add/Remove Programs.

2. Check and make sure that any AV running on the BE server isn't perhaps blocking the services from starting up. If so, put in an exclusion for them.

3. Make sure those services aren't scheduled for a delayed startup.

THanks!

after server restart, do you see a process named lugetupdates.exe running in the Task Manager ? Ig yes, end that process & see if your backup runs successfully or not
