Hi,
I have a BE12.5 server in a branch office. When the weekly job runs, it doesnt get completed and the tape ejects automatically. So when i see the status of the job, it says the following:-
Completed status: Canceled, timed out The job was automatically canceled because it exceeded the job's maximum configured run time. |
How do i configure the job so that it completes the write operation to tape.
Thanks,

Check this technote:
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH24337
disable Automatic Cancellation.

That option is not checked on that server.
Is there anything esle that could terminate the job every week?
Thanks

it might be due to the schedule time window:

You say the weekly backups are failing, are daily backups working fine ?
Isn't the tape full and is'nt it asking for a second tape ?

The daily jobs are running fine.
Once the daily job runs during the night and copied to tape, the user changes the tape next day in the morning. The problem is only with the weekly.

What is the difference between the daily and weekly backups ?
Did you see my comment about the full tape above ?

The schedule time window is given as follows
Time window
Start no earlier than 23:00
and no later than 22:59:59 the following day
The user puts the weekly tape on Friday evening and the job is scheduled to run every sunday by 23:00.
The job runs throughtout Monday and takes more than 21 hours and it gets cancelled automatically with the tape ejected out on Tuesday morning.
Thanks

Is the sunday backup a full backup and the daily an incremental/differential backup ?
10-16-2012 07:39 AM
Thats correct. The Sunday backup is a full backup and the daily is an incremental backup.

Can you check if the sunday tape is full ?
10-17-2012 01:40 AM
If the sunday tape was full, would not the job be asking for another overwrittable media to be inserted to complete the job? Only the tape ejected out of the tape drive and the job gets cancelled.

This would happen if the Media Insert alert was auto-responded as cancel. Look in Alerts history for such alerts.
Edit: To change the behaviour, you will need to go to Tools -> Alert categories, look fo the same alert in the list and change the way it is auto-responded or even set it not to be.

Thanks for the info Jaydeep. In the Configure Alert Categories, there is a category name called Media Insert and the settings are Automatically clear alert after 5 minutes and respond with yes.
What do i need to change here?
Thanks

That seems to be fine. Did you already check if the tape is actualy full ?
As a test, can you create a new job, and let that job create a full backup ?
Maybe there is something incorrectly configured in the exisiting job.

Hi,
Will the tape eject out by itself in during the job if it gets full?
Thanks

Normaly yes, what kind of tape device do you have ?
10-18-2012 05:44 AM
It is an LT03 tape used for weekly jobs and a LT02 tape used for daily.

As a test, can you create a new job, and let that job create a full backup ?

I will try that out.
