Backup jobs queuing after "error reading file data" occurs

Jennie_Willcox

We are using Backup Exec 9.0 on a Windows 2000 server. Not too long ago, jobs started failing. After backing up about 150 Gb of data, the backup job's status changes from running to queued. I have to cancel the job from there. The error messages always read:

Backup - \\servername\D: The media operation was terminated by the user.
Error reading file data.
Error reading file data.
Media mount failed.
User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation.

From this I would assume there is a problem with the data at that location, but the server and file name never stay the same. The error is not consistant.

The tapes should not be filling up because they will hold up to 200 Gb of compressed data. I have tried changing the data and location that it backs up, and it makes no difference. I still get this error everyday on a variety of different tapes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Check if you have any active alerts in BE waiting for response!

Refer this document:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/240947

Perform the cleaning operation of Tape Device 3-4 times.

Also try to run a test backup using fresh media and verify the result.

It would be a good idea to upgrade free of cost to BE v9.1 and install latets drivers:
