Hi,

In order to backup those servers via the SAN, you need the following:

1. Tape library attached to the SAN and zoned to see the other servers.

2. SAN SSO (Shared Storage Option) licensed and installed on your main media server.

3. Other servers making use of the SAN to be attached to the SAN and also to have full versions of BE installed along with the necessary agents.

The tape library is key...if it isn't SAN-attached, it won't work and your backups will end up running across your LAN using a standard RAWS agent installation.

Cool stuff, no worries...just a bit more background to how SAN SSO works:

The main media server acts as the "controller" in a way. It controls which other servers controlled to the SAN get access to the robotics. If this didn't exist, whichever server got access to the library would lock it, preventing other servers from connecting to it.
