Try media set settings as follows:

Overwrite Protection Period: 1 Day

Append Period: 5 Days

This settings will prevent your job from creating 5 backup files.

Please Mark this post as solution if this helps.

That won't work, as the OPP is extended each time you append  (FWIW, I recommend all disk jobs be OVERWRITE for just this reason)

Change the job to Overwrite only, and it should then work

Aso, be sure that from Tools\Options\Media Management that the option to "Use overwriteable media in the target media set before scratch media" is selected

If the other  ("use scratch media before  ...)  BackupExec will continue createing new IMG and BKF folders\files until the disk is full

If i am not wrong, the user don't want to overwrite daily.

Every week first backup should overwrite the last weeks backups.

I think what i told will work with his requirement.

If he use overwrite only, i think only one day backup will be available. Am i correct?

Please correct if i am wrong..

The way that I read it, the OP wants to keep 5 days of data, overwriting last weeks data of the same day.  That is he wants to use the same files/folders each Monday, and the same on Tues etc

if you Overwrite on Monday, and Append, Tues, Wed, Thurs and Fri, with a 5 day OPP, none of the data can be overwritten until 5 days after the Friday backup - on the following Wed.

A six day OPP with all overwrite jobs will do what is intended

Create a media set "X" with overwrite protection period: 6 days

Append period: 1 day.

Created a backup policy and add 5 job templates.

Scheduled one job for each day backup.

Associate the selection list with it.

Associate the media set "X"  with each job.

On eighth day first day's backup will be  overwritten.

Best Regards...

Created a backup policy and add 5 job templates.

Scheduled one job for each day backup.

Why not just one job run every night?  Why make things more difficult than they need to be?

Append period: 1 day.

Why have any append period at all?

On eighth day first day's backup will be  overwritten.

The OP wants to use Monday files every Monday,  Tues files ever Tues and so on, so this isn't what is requested

@ Ken: At https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-2010-overwrite-protection

You only told the settings i mentioned in the earlier post of mine should work just fine. Quicker posted how to prevent from creating multiple files. I suggested settings for overwriting a single file if there are multiple files.                                                                                                                                                       https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/videos/be-125-overwrite-protection-and-appending-disk-backup
