Backup virtual DC (2008R2 on vmware esx 4.1) succeedes, but triggers ESENT-error and VSS-error in eventlog on this server

Hello,

I’m trying to backup my virtual DC, running Win2008R2. I’m using Backupexec 2010R2 and vmware-Agent. The RemoteAgent and the vmware-tools are installed on the virtual DC, the vmware-vss is deinstalled, because BE installed its own  vss-provider.

The backup succeedes, but triggers ESENT-error ID 489 and VSS-error ID 8229 in eventlog on the virtual server ( Win2008 R2):

---------

Error 489, Source ESENT:

Lsass 576

c:\Windows\NTDS\ntds.dit

-1032 (0xfffffbf8)

32 (0x00000020)

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

----------

Warning 8229, Source VSS:

A VSS writer has rejected an event with error 0x800423f4, The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur. Changes that the writer made to the writer components while handling the event will not be available to the requester. Check the event log for related events from the application hosting the VSS writer.

----------

After the Backup, the vss-writer “NTDS”-State failed, Code [11]non-retryable error.

I have to reboot the virtual Server to become the VSS-writer “NTDS” stable.

I’m afraid that the backup of the AD might be inconsistent.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
