Hi Vicky, Q Once install the new server we will replace the basernum.xml file from new server. is it correct or we need any other activation for get the license from old server. Answer while installing backupexec again you can import this besernum.XML which will bring back all your licenses. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH87335 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH23760 Thanks

Backup Exec automatically take a backup of it's own configuration and saves it in DATA folder present in installation directory. CATALOGS folder will have the catalog details for all the backups taken. Create a backup job and choose DATA and CATALOGS folder to be backedup.

Note: I personally feel taking a manual copy of those folders to network share or any USB drive is better. Incase of any disaster it would be easy to copy these folders back to new installation as tape library/drive configuration is not required to do the recovery of backup exec.

Hi Kiran,

DATA and CATALOGS folder only enaugh for the recover full details from the backup server.(If backup server crashed, after we installed new one and paste the above mentioned 2 folders in same location, it's working properly or need some config. in new server). Pls explain those those of things.

Yes, those two folders are enough for the recovery.

After installing BE, stop the services. Paste the contents of old catalogs folder to new catalogs folder. Use BEutility tool (can be found under installation directory) to apply the old configuration on new installation.

Hi You can also use copy configuration to save backupexec settings and for catalog you can backup the entire catalog folder too.si in case if server crashes this would be enough to get your setting back. Also you need to copy besernum.XML from C-Document settings-All users application data-symantec. Which will save your license information. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH37072 Thanks

Search for Besernum.xml file in the media server.

Also if you have the printed BE serail numbers, you can simply enter the keys during the fresh installation.

H Vicky, Please open the besernum.XML from the location shared by me in above post or link ,you can open this file in Internet explorer or notepad to check serial keys.considering backup exec is licensed and also you can go to tools-install option and license keys to check same in backupexec . Thanks
