Hello , first time posting here..

I hope my post will be clear enought so i can get help as soon as possible ;) if not, please let me know ( english isnt my natal born language )

Lets start with the problem .. Lately ( I couldnt tell when since i never did it my self .. ) I am totaly unable to run a Inventory on my LTO4 Tape, it always stay in "Queued" status, i tried the solution according to the following link. and some other post from your forum that says to put my drive in suspended mode, then re-enable it, but it still dont work.

LINK THAT I TRIED :
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/311244.htm ---- NEGATIVE
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/cannot-unlock-lto-tape-library-using-backup-exec-unlock-command ---- NEGATIVE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem #2

I also have a problem with my username

it used to be on Administrator, but now i changed it to Service-BackupExec ( been forced to, for some external verification )
now i got that error message , see link
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/325495.htm

tried the solution offered but .. i can't figure out how to add those "permission" please help ?

and two more thing ... using BEUTILITY.exe as told : http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/254246.htm

i noticed that my server is in "suspended" state ? someone could explain me why and how to fix it, if anything has to be fixed at all..

Lastly, how can i know if I am elligible to a FREE BackupExec 2010 Upgrade ? plus, when is the Service pack suppose to be out ?

Thank you very much for your time and future help.
Have a nice day

If you have a current support contract with Symantec, you are eligible for a free upgrade.

For your problem #1, try re-installing the Symantec drivers for the tape drive.

1) Go to Tools ---> Wizards ---> Device Configuration Wizard to re-install the drivers
2) Power down both your server and tape drive
3) Power up your tape drive
4) Power up your server
5) Under the Windows Device Manager, check that the tape drive is functioning normally and has Symantec drivers.

For your problem #2, when you change the id used for the BE service account, the new id must have sufficient permissions to do its work.  These permissions are normally assigned by the system administrator.  Do consult him on how to do so.

The reason why your server is suspended could be due to the fact that the BE services are not started up correctly.  Check that all the BE services are correctly started.

i am the system administrator,

i know .. its sad ;p

ill try the first "fix" you provided, ill give you further feedback.

for the problem #2, i know how to assign right and permission, i just cant find what persmission should be added AND where are they suppose to be available ? i mean .. they are not normal permission like read write etc...

problem #3 , services are all running, and backup are taken as usual each day.

thank you for your help.

As stated in one of the documents that you quoted, the id used for the BE service account needs to have these rights

Act as part of the operating system (For Windows 2000 only)
Backup files and directories
Create a token object
Logon as a batch job (For Windows 2008 only)
Logon as a service
Manage auditing and security log
Restore files and directories
Take ownership of files and other objects

Theses are not permissions, but rights (what it can do) of the id.  These are quite powerful rights, so we normally use an id which is part of the Domain Administrator group which has all these rights.

ok but,

Act as part of the operating system (For Windows 2000 only)
Backup files and directories
Create a token object
Logon as a batch job (For Windows 2008 only)
Logon as a service
Manage auditing and security log
Restore files and directories
Take ownership of files and other objects

whee can i add these permission ? i cannot find em in my security tabs or something similar to that.

thank you again!

Hi,

I found this link which explains where to look to add these permissions:
